Just 20 minutes from our home is the Canterbury Gliding Club which keeps several 2-seater gliders for rides and instruction. After several delays because of unfavorable weather, I had a perfect morning for my flight. The pictures show (1) me standing along the wide winged craft which just happens to to be marked at the tail with my initials (2) me strapped in with parachute on my back used just for chair padding, I hope (3) just after take-off behind out toe plane (4) a typical vista over the nearby foothills as we aim for that wispy cloud just straight ahead which suggests an updraft beneath it. I had the controls for a few minutes coached closely from the back seat by pilot, Bruce. He has retired from flying 787’s going back to his roots of gliders he first experienced 50 years ago as a teen. It was exhilarating and relaxing at the same time and I may have to do this again. Dianne says she will pass on this activity.
