HAWAII-only half as far as New Zealand

Hi friends and family. We chose to stay closer to home this winter with a 4 month stint at a Kaiser-Permanente Clinic in Kailua, Hawaii. We are just 30 minutes from Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

Our first visitor was the gecko that appears in this picture. They are harmless creatures that do a nice job of eating bugs without pitching us to buy Geico insurance. They are beautiful up close but so quick afoot we haven’t got a great picture-yet anyway. We’ve been visited about every other evening since arriving a week ago. This always “suprises” Dianne.

Chickens are seen frequently loose around town and this next picture shows a rooster in front of our nearby grocery. Despite the bounty, we bought a rotisserie chicken our first day and found it (and most groceries) cost about twice what they do in Iowa.

Our favorite breaakfast place so far is Cinnamon’s which is open for breakfast and lunch. Surprisingly, they don’t serve cinnamon rolls but the pancakes I am holding sport that same delicious flavor. Our waitress said she invented them when she worked in their kitchen. The upside is there is no need to wait for the dough to rise but the downside is cleaning the sticky grill after they are cooked.

  1. Aloha to you both, and blessings on you new great adventure!

I feel like if you talk to the geckos in a British accent they will be afraid that you are trying to sell them insurance and will leave you alone.

By the way, you guys really go to great lengths to avoid the Iowa winters!
